The category

Personal Biometric Privacy

Personal Biometric Privacy is the ability for an individual to control when their face, voice, or other biometric identifiers can be read by a consumer device.

It applies to everyday devices: smart glasses, wearable cameras, ambient sensors. It does not apply to government or law enforcement systems, which sit outside CloakDots' scope by design.

The discipline

Consumer Privacy Engineering

Consumer Privacy Engineering is the discipline CloakDots practises to build Personal Biometric Privacy.

It means engineering physical materials, wearable devices and digital tools that give individuals agency over when and how their biometric information is captured, interpreted and used by consumer AI devices, rather than relying on policy or platform cooperation alone.

Core concepts

Biometric Readability

Biometric readability describes how reliably a device can extract identifiable biometric data from a person in real time. That device might be a camera, a pair of glasses or a sensor. CloakDots products are designed to reduce readability at the point of capture, not to guarantee invisibility or eliminate risk entirely.

Ambient Capture

Ambient capture describes biometric data collection that happens passively, in the background of everyday life. A device reads your face simply because you walked past it, not because you interacted with it. It is the defining nature of the problem CloakDots exists to address.

Opt-out

To opt out, in CloakDots' terms, means taking a deliberate, physical or active step that reduces your biometric readability to a nearby device. It does not mean adjusting a software setting, and it does not mean asking a platform for permission.

Brand vocabulary

Visibility

Visibility refers to whether your biometric identity is currently identifiable to a device, not whether you can be seen. CloakDots does not make anyone invisible, and is not trying to. You remain fully visible to the people around you. What changes is whether a machine can recognise and extract who you are. See Biometric Readability.

Wearable

A CloakDots wearable is a physical product worn on the body, designed to interfere with how a nearby device captures biometric data. It is distinct from a general device or gadget, since its function is defined by what it does to protect the wearer.

Infrastructure

Infrastructure describes the long-term ambition behind CloakDots' work: not a single product, but a foundational layer. The same way seatbelts or locks became assumed parts of everyday life.

Designed for Consumer Privacy

We build for consumer devices only — smart glasses, wearable cameras, ambient sensors in everyday life. Government identification systems, law enforcement, and border control sit outside what CloakDots is built for.

If a device is identifying you without your consent in a public space, whether that is a bar, a train, a coffee shop or anywhere else in public life, that is what we exist for.
